An opening reception for “The Seasonal Prairie,” a collection of drawings and watercolors by George Olson, will take place from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 8 in Carl Sandburg College’s Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery, located in Building D on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

“The Seasonal Prairie” runs through Jan. 10. Both the show and opening reception are free and open to the public.

Considered a master of the botanical arts genre, Olson taught for 37 years at College of Wooster and has had more than 80 exhibitions, including in places such as Ohio State University, Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pittsburgh, the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Missouri Botanical Garden.

His work has also been featured in several galleries and museums in England, including the British Museum of Natural History. Olson’s pieces also have been reproduced in many books and magazines, and they were featured on the cover of “Garden Magazine,” the official journal of the Royal Horticultural Society, in May 1988.

Established in 2006 and named for area artist Lonnie Eugene Stewart in 2015, the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery has hosted group faculty exhibits, juried student exhibits and the works of local professional photographers and painters.
